10 Items to Buy in Bulk to Save Money

When we were first married and living on a tight budget, I did everything I could to save money, including buying items in bulk. My husband used to laugh some when he saw me bring home huge bags and boxes of stuff. But after the children started to arrive and money disappeared even quicker, he was quite thankful for my savings skills. Here is a list of basic items that you can easily buy in bulk for huge savings.

1. Toilet Paper and Paper Towels
It’s not only a convenience to have these items on hand, but buying them in bulk makes the price per unit much cheaper. The only problem you might have with stocking up on these items is storing them. Before purchasing a shopping cart’s worth of these, make sure you have the storage space.

2. Rice, Beans and Pasta
These have a long shelf life so it make sense to buy these food items in bulk. Plus, buying these in bulk saves you money. They’re great for quick, easy meals on weeknights.

3. Laundry Detergent
Buy this in bulk when it’s on sale. For more ideas on how to save money on laundry, check out this post.

4. Shampoo and Conditioner
Instead of buying expensive drug store shampoo, I buy 1 gallon jugs of good brands like TRESemme and Paul Mitchell online.

5. Dental Care
We should change toothbrushes every three months, so it pays to buy them in bulk saving you money for each brush. It’s also worth buying toothpaste in bulk also.

6. Hand Soap
I keep a large container of liquid soap under my sink and refill my smaller bottle when I need to. You can also get body wash in bulk too.

7. Diapers
Unless you choose to use cloth diapers, you will go through several boxes a week, especially if you have two little ones who are still in diapers. This is one tip that has saved our budget with kids. Check out Amazon for good deals. It also pays to have an Amazon Prime subscription for the free shipping and other benefits.

8. Lightbulbs
It’s such an inconvenience to have a bulb blowout and not have any backups. Save money and an extra trip to the store by storing bulbs that you buy in bulk.

9. Batteries
Batteries are great items to buy in bulk, especially when they’re on sale. Check all your battery-operated devices to see what types you use the most. Just make sure to store them in a cool environment to maximize their shelf life.

10. Vitamins
Become part of a rewards program at your local pharmacy and take advantage of their buy 1 get one 50% off (or free) deals on vitamins that they advertise.
