Easy Swedish Meatballs
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes
Serves: 8
Ingredients
For the meatballs:
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1/2 onion, fine chopped
2 pounds ground pork (or beef)
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon cardamom
1/4 teaspoon ground all spice
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tbs fresh parsley, chopped
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the sauce:
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 tablespoons flour
2 cups beef broth
1 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoons dijon mustard
salt and pepper, to taste
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and cook onion until translucent.
In a large bowl, add ground beef or pork, cooked onion, panko breadcrumbs, eggs, parsley, cardamom, nutmeg ground all spice, garlic powder, salt and black pepper. Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to measure out the meat for 1.5 inch balls, and form the balls with your hands. This recipe should make roughly 40 balls.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs and cook turning continuously until brown on all sides and cooked throughout. Transfer to a plate and cover with foil.
To make the sauce, add 4 tablespoons butter and flour to the skillet and whisk until it turns brown. Slowly stir in beef broth and heavy cream. Add Worchestershire sauce and dijon mustard and bring to a simmer until sauce starts to thicken. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Add the meatballs back into the skillet and simmer for another 1-2 minutes. Serve over egg noodles.
