Pumpkin lattes and apple pie aren’t the only things to look forward to in the fall. Since hot temperatures are behind us, retailers give huge discounts on summer items to get ready for the winter season. Here are the great buys you can expect in October.
Appliances
Manufacturers release their new models in the winter, so you’ll find great deals on stoves in October. Retailers usually place clearance prices on last year’s models still in inventory. Look for discounts on refrigerators, stoves and cooktops, washing machines and more.
Grills and Outdoor Furniture
Retailers are desperately trying to offload their summer inventory, so you’ll find major markdowns. Leftover grills and outdoor furniture are likely be marked down.
Air Conditioners
Since consumers are focusing on warming up their homes as the temperature drops, retailers know cooling isn’t a priority. So they’ll be selling their remaining air conditioners and fans at deep discounted prices.
Camping Gear
Traditionally, all things camping go on sale in October. Grab some super deals on tents, sleeping bags, and other gear could mean that soon you’ll be sitting by a campfire and roasting marshmallows.
Garden Tools
Stores that sell lawnmowers, rakes, gardening gloves, tools, and planters place all those items on sale in October to make room for their winter products. It’s a great time to replace old, tired, broken garden tools.
Cars
October is often a good time to buy a new car since dealerships are eager to meet end-of-year sales targets and new models are hitting the lots. You may find special promotions, discounts or incentives to purchase a vehicle during this month.
Toys and Games
October is when retailers clear the aisles for the hot new Christmas toys. That means all the old items that;s been filling the shelves will go on sale. Based on past performance, the best time during October to grab those bargains will be mid-month.
Bikes
With cold weather right ahead, retailers promote some of their lowest bike prices of the year in October. Shoppers can expect to find bicycles—both traditional and eBikes—bike accessories and helmets, and other cycling-related products at great prices.
Halloween Costumes and Candy
Retailers want to get rid of as much of their stock as possible by Oct. 31, so the closer we get to Halloween, the steeper discounts will be on costumes and candy. Of course, the best deals will be on Nov. 1st.
Pizza
Pizza is a huge deal during the month of October—National Pizza Month! Check out your local pizza chain for a great deal.
Tacos and Desserts
October has two food holidays to look forward to. National Taco Day is Oct. 1, and National Dessert Day is Oct. 14. Look for deals at your local taco joints, bakeries and other restaurants.
Columbus Day Sales
This year, Columbus Day is Monday, October 14. Many stores—brick and mortar and online—will take advantage of that holiday weekend to clear out summer items.
