What is a blogging platform?
A blogging platform is a software or service that you use to publish your content online. It allows you to create posts and manage everything you create.
WordPress is an extremely popular platform. It offers the most flexibility for design and monetization!
Although WordPress.org is free, you will need to host your files on a server. If you’re interested in making money from your blog, then paying for hosting is a MUST.

What is a web host?
Hosting is where you store your data. It’s pretty much your blog disk space. Like the hard drive on your laptop, you need a place online where people can access all your content.
It’s important to use a good hosting company. Your hosting company is where all your content is kept. If your hosting company has problems, you will also, so you’ll want to choose a hosting company that has excellent service and helpful customer service.
I recommend starting your blog on Bluehost because of the incredibly affordable price, reliable service and exceptional customer service. BlueHost is great for beginners to start a blog. How to Start a Blog on Bluehost
Click here to go to Bluehost.
Hit the blue “Get Started” button.
You will be directed to a page where you can select the type of plan you want to purchase. I’d suggest the Basic plan. With a new blog, the basic plan is all you need to get started, and you can always upgrade later if you need to. It is paid in one lump sum instead of monthly, but it will save you quite a bit of money.

Pick your blog’s domain name
Next, you’ll be directed to the page where you’ll choose the domain name for your blog. Choose a name that’s easy to spell and easy to remember.
If your name isn’t available or you still haven’t chosen a name, you can skip this step and click on “I’ll create my domain later” at the bottom of the page.
Already own a domain name?
If you already own a domain name that you bought before from another website, you will need to connect it to your . Just choose the second option on the right of the page instead of registering a new domain name. You will then have to log in to your domain provider Account Manager page and follow the specific instructions to connect your domain to your Bluehost server.
Create your Bluehost account
Now you fill in your account details like your name and email address.
Bluehost payment information
If you want to keep your costs as low as possible, remember to uncheck any extra add-ons. I strongly advise paying for “Domain Privacy + Protection” to keep your details private.
There are other services available on this screen. The only one I recommend is the “Domain Privacy Protection.” This protects your personal information like name, address, and phone number from being publicly accessible.
You will be directed to a screen that says “Welcome to Bluehost.” That means you officially started your blog! Congrats! There are just a few more steps to take. Hit “Create you Password,” then choose your password.
After you login, WordPress should automatically install. If it doesn’t, select your new blog name from the drop down menu and select install. Note: WordPress will install on your blog (not on your computer).
After you have installed WordPress and selected your password, Bluehost will give you the option to select a theme. We will do this later (step 6).
So, here, you can either select any of the themes or click “Skip This Step” below the offered themes.
Now you just need to click the “Start Building” blue button. You will be redirected to WordPress:
So, here, you can either select any of the themes or simply click Skip This Step below the offered themes.
After logging in from the last step, you will be taken to a screen that will prompt you to choose a theme. The theme is what your website will look like.
There are plenty of options between free and paid themes, and you can start with a free theme until you find a high-quality premium theme that you love and fits your budget.
That's it for setting up your blog!
Congratulations! You officially have a blog up and running!
My biggest tip to you is to just start writing. The only way to be a successful blogger that makes money is to get content out there.
