Paper Plate Cat with Moving Eyes

CAT-MOVING-EYES.png

This is a fun, interactive craft where you place the eyes on a strip of cardstock and move the eyes from side to side.

What you'll need:

Paper plate
Black paint (or any color you want to paint your cat)
Cardstock
Pipe cleaners
Pom pom
Scissors
Glue
Template (download PDF here)

First, paint the paper plate black (or another color for your cat). While you're waiting for the plate to dry, print put the template. When the paint is dry, cut out two 1-inch holes for the eyes.

Cut a long rectangle of white cardstock, approx. 11 inches x 1.5 inch. Cut the 2 circles from the template. Color the eyes green and the pupils black. Glue the eyes onto the center of the white rectangle. Make sure they are spaced the correct distance apart to see through the eye holes in the paper plate.

Lay the white eye strip across the back of the paper plate so that the eyes show through the paper plate eye holes. Cut two thin strips of white cardstock, a little longer than the height of the white eye strip. Glue the top and bottom of the thin strips to the back of the paper plate to hold the eye strip in place. Make sure you don’t glue the eye strip because it needs to be able to move.

Cut the large triangles out of the same color paint you used for the cat. Cut out the smaller triangle with white or pink paper and glue them to the larger triangle.

Take 3 white or pink pipe cleaners and twist them in the middle and glue them to the cat's face. Finish with a cute pom pom nose.

Now, your child can have fun by pushing and pulling the eye strip from either side to make the cat’s eyes move!
