14 Ways to Save at Michael's

How many times have you gone to Michael’s for just a few specific items and walked out with a whole bag of stuff? If you enjoy creating craft projects as much as I do, here is a list of ways to save at Michael’s.

1. They take competitor’s coupons
If you have a coupon for Jo-Ann’s, A.C. Moore or Hobby Lobby, you can use it at Michael’s. Please note that they’ll take coupons for a single item, not entire purchase coupons. Just check to see if Michael’s has a better coupon first.

2. Use Michael’s app
One way to save both money and time is to use Michael’s app. It’s a convenient way to check for coupons and see if there are any sales all from your phone.

3. Follow them on social media
Connect with them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to get advance notice of coupons and sales. You can also find a lot of craft ideas, too.

4. Discounts for teachers, seniors and military
Teachers get 15% off their entire purchase every single day.
Seniors get 10% off their entire purchase every single day.
Military gets 15% off their entire purchase every single day.
Some exclusions apply. Bring valid IDs for your discounts.

5. In-store price match guarantee
They have an in-store price match guarantee, which includes competitors like Walmart and Target. The match must be for a current advertised price for an identical item. All you have to do is bring the ad to the register.

6. Get their rewards card
With the free rewards program, you’ll get exclusive offers delivered straight to your inbox. You’ll get members-only invites where you can meet, mingle and craft with other members and you’ll get special shopping hours. And the best part. No receipt needed for returns. Simply take the item you want to return, tell them about your rewards membership when you made the purchase and they will be able to look that purchase up for you.

7. You can use multiple coupons
Michael’s allows you to use multiple coupons during the same transaction, as long as they are different types of coupons. That means if you use a 30% off coupon for one item and another coupon for 10% off your entire purchase, the 10% coupon will not apply to the item that already has the 30% discount.

8. Receive text alerts
You can have coupons and promotions sent to your phone, instead of having to search for them. The store sends up to eight messages a month and standard message and data rates apply.

9. Join Michael’s mailing list
Sign up for Michael’s mailing list to be the first to know about coupons, exclusive offers, new products and more.

10. Take advantage of their kids classes
Michael’s offers classes for kids that can give you a few hours to yourself or extra time to run errands. Some classes do have fees but there are also classes where you just pay for supplies.

11. Don’t overlook clearance items
Check the store for great deals on seasonal clearance items both in-store and online. You can also save a lot if you plan ahead by finding deals for upcoming holidays.

12. Know when to shop
Michael’s almost always offers 40% or 50% off one regular priced item throughout the week. They also offer 20% off your entire purchase coupon (including sales prices) a couple of times a month.

13. Shop the dollar bins and grab bags
You’ll find bins in the center aisles filled with a bunch of items for only 50—, $1, $2 or $5. These bins are changed frequently and you’ll find so much stuff. Also, check out their seasonal grab bags which you can get for just a couple of bucks.

14. Complete surveys for coupons
When you complete the surveys at the bottom of their receipts, you’ll receive a coupon to use later on.
