I have a few friends that are Korean, and I have to admit, I’m jealous of their flawless skin. As one of my friends once stated “her passion for beauty began with her mom. Koreans are obsessed with their skin.” Her mom always had something new sent over from her sisters in Korea. Upon asking their advice on how to achieve beautiful skin, my friends have shared these skin routines that Korean women have practiced for generations.
1. Have a steam massage
When taking a shower, give yourself a steam massage. It can help boost circulation and improves your complexion, giving you a healthy glow.
Rub your fingers around your face using a gentle circular motion. Start on your forehead and work down to your cheek, and down to your chin.
Ampoules are similar to serums and essences, but contain a higher concentration of active ingredients that target certain skincare issues. They’re used for a limited amount of time for when your skin needs some extra help.
Essences are water-based skincare product that hydrates the complexion and nourishes the skin cells. They also enhance the effectiveness of other skincare products that are added on top. I love all the natural ingredients of SeoulCeuticals Essence. This essence is formulated with green tea, aloe vera,, cucumber extract, marine minerals, and tamarind extract that will give you brighter and healthier skin.
4. Tone and Balance
Toners help to balance the pH level of your skin, as an unbalanced pH level may cause inflammation, dryness, and aging skin. A toner will also improve the efficacy of other skincare products. Since toner removes dirt and oil, providing a clean canvas, it enhances the efficacy of serums and moisturizers. THAYERS Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Facial Toner contains witch hazel which cleanses, moisturizes and evens skin tone appearance. It also has aloe vera which hydrates and promotes heathy skin.
5. Apply a serum
Serums are designed to target specific skin concerns, like dark spots, dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. Serums have a high concentration of active ingredients that can penetrate deep into the skin.
6. Double cleanse
Korean women make sure their skin is clean from makeup, excess oil, dirt and bacteria at night. That’s why they double cleanse, where they remove their makeup with a cleanser first, and then wash their face with another cleanser for a deep cleaning. Formulated with natural ingredients, Henyul Pure Cleansing Oil removes makeup and residue. It also helps balance your skin with natural plants and grains.
7. Moisturize and hydrate
Apply moisturizer on your face to keep your skin hydrated and nourished. Moisturizing helps prevent your skin from becoming too dry or oily, which help prevent skin problems like acne and blemishes. Moisturizer also helps seal the water in your skin which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Whamisa Organic Hydrogel Facial Mask is made with 95% organically fermented ingredients to nourish and hydrate your skin.
8. Exfoliate regularly
Exfoliate once or twice a week to get rid of dead skill cells to make room for new and healthy skin. And although our skin naturally sheds dead cells and creates new ones, its ability to do so decreases as we age. Exfoliating can help this process along to promote more radiant skin.
9. Use an eye cream
The area around your eyes is very delicate, so to keep fine lines and dark circles at bay, it’s best to use an eye cream to keep that area hydrated and nourished throughout the day.
10. Wear sunscreen
Protecting your skin from the sun is the key to youthful, glowing skin. We may feel that we only need to protect ourselves on sunny days or when we’re at the beach. The truth is, the sun’s UV rays can get through whether it’s sunny or cloudy. So, be sure to wear sunscreen to help protect your skin from UV rays which can contribute to premature signs of aging and cause dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles. Missha All Around Safe Block Sun Milk SPF 50+/PA+++ has a double layer UV blocking system that provides long-lasting and impenetrable UV protection
